Windows 10 Defender appears to only be partially disabled during the install of Norton The Windows Defender Services are disabled by stopping them and setting them to Manual but key Windows registry entries appear to be missing. I had the same issue after installing NIS I solved it by reinstalling NIS after a manual shutdown of Defender. I tried everything and nothing helps. Can you please explain and How did you do a manual shutdown of Defender?

I have W The slider could only be operated without NIS installed. So I had to uninstall first. I put the slider to 'off' while NIS was not installed. Also, I did not click on any of Windows' notifications to enable one or the other protection while NIS was installing. When running Windows Defender if it is correctly disabled, you get only the window in the attachment.

I tried all methods of restarting and cold boot, updating and not updating! Glad to hear the result! Turning off Norton Internet Security protections made no difference and installation of the Defender Definition Update from within Windows Update still fails with the error 0x Unlike Finn, I don't want to keep seeing the update come up when it is irrelevant.

There should be a way of making sure it doesn't come up in Windows Update under these circumstances.
